No more shopping (or planning): Not everyone has time to go to the supermarket. That's why we deliver the ingredients to your door at university. That means more time to study and party🥳

No, not at all! Gastrostudent has been created by former university students, with university students in mind- but we invite everyone to try our recipe boxes and let us know what you think!

No you don't! We've designed Gastrostudent to make sure that our boxes can be conveniently delivered and left on your doorstep!

All recipe boxes are insulated, meaning that ingredients can stay cool for at least 48 hours. If you tell us during your order where you would like your recipe box to be delivered, we'll let our delivery partners know!

So you can return from uni knowing that your food has been delivered- simple, right?

We use cool bags and ice packs! We have developed 2 types of cool bags to keep your food cold and fresh during transit:

Paper/ Wool Cool bag- Our standard cool bag is paper-based on the outside, which means it can be recycled! Internally is sustainably source wool which keeps your produce cold and below 8 degrees for at least 48 hours.

Corn starch/ Jeans Cool bag- Our vegan cool bag is a corn starch exterior which is recyclable. Internally is recycled denim from jeans. Yes, you read that right! We use recycled jeans in the inside of our cool bags to keep your produce cold and below 8 degrees.

We've made it as easy as possible for you to keep your ingredients in top condition. Once you receive your Gastrostudent recipe box, you should make sure that you store your ingredients properly to ensure that they stay fresh.

For your fridge:

Ingredients from your cool bag: meat, fish dairy Fruit and leafy vegetablesFresh herbs (except basil- it doesn't like cold temperatures!)

For your cupboard:

Root vegetables, potatoes and onions The brown paper bag of spices and bits and bobs

For your freezer:

Any meat or fish (except prawns and scallops) that you don't want to eat right away

We understand the importance of sustainability and the importance of reducing our carbon footprint to ensure the planet is a more pleasant place to live!

That's why we've worked tirelessly to minimise our use of plastic packaging where possible. Most of the packing that we use in our recipe boxes is also fully recyclable or biodegradable.

How do I recycle my Gastrostudent box?

All of our cardboard is fully recyclable and comes from FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified sustainable sources. We love our boxes and we hope that you do too! They're great for storing your uni files or books for studying (or even to move to another flat!)

You can flatten and recycle our boxes in your household recycling.

How do I recycle the spices and herbs pots in my Gastrostudent box?

We use biodegradable pots which are recycled across the UK. Simply pop them in with the recycling. Alternatively, you may wish to reuse these.

How do I recycle the tins and cans in my Gastrostudent box?

These are widely recycled across the UK. Simply rinse these out and pop them in with the recycling.

How do I recycle my egg boxes?

Our egg boxes are made of cardboard, so these are 100% recyclable. Simply pop these into your recycling.

How do I recycle my bread packaging items?

98% of our bread products use kraft paper and foil packaging- meaning they can be recycled (a UK first!). Our 6 pack of rolls, unfortunately, still come in plastic film which isn't recyclable.

What do I do with my Gastrostudent ice packs?

We use gel in our ice packs as they keep your ingredients cooler for longer. You can pop these into your freezer and reuse these. They're particularly useful in the summer!

How do I recycle my paper pouches?

Our paper pouches are recyclable, but they are reusable! You can store dry ingredients in our pouches and reseal them, keeping them air-tight in your cupboard.

How do I recycle my cool bag?

Your cool bag is made up of 2 layers. The first is either a paper pouch or a biodegradable corn starch pouch. Both are widely recyclable, so you can pop these into your recycling bin as normal. Inside of your cool bag is a layer of insulation. This insulation is sustainably sourced, but not currently recyclable. They are great, however, at keeping out draft in the winter!
